Aliomanu Beach

This is one of the hidden gems on Kauai. You'll leave the rest of the tourist world behind when you drive down to this locals beach, and you'll find this white strip of sand on the east coast just north of the slightly more popular Anahola Beach.

Blink and you'll miss the turn-off for this secluded beach off of Kuhio Highway. Take a turn towards the water (right if driving north from Kapaa and left if driving south from Princeville) on Aliomanu Road. You can drive down to the end of the road to find the south side of this beach, or you can take a left turn on Kalalea View Drive. You then have to take a right on Kalalea View off of Kalalea View Drive to get to the north side of the beach.

You can visit the south side of the beach, but it's only good for fishing. You'll likely watch as local fisherman torch-, pole-, and throw-net fish in the shallow waters. It's the perfect place for a relaxing picnic, but you'll have to head to the northern half of the beach for swimming.

You won't find many tourists on the northern end of the beach. Small trees line the back of the white sand beach to give you plenty of shade, but there's a short break and rocky shore just a few feet into the water. It makes swimming a bit difficult, and there are no lifeguards on this secluded beach. Swim at your own risk.

But this is the perfect spot for a romantic hideaway. The only tourists you're likely to see are those renting a vacation home along the beach. Otherwise, you'll have the sand all to yourself.
