This guided excursion travels over privately owned lands to the inaccessible and historic Kohala Sugar Plantation irrigation system. There is approximately a 35 minute drive to the waterway in 4x4 vans from the Kohala Mountain Kayak Headquarters. The Irrigation system is a 22.5 mile series of open ditches, flumes and tunnels. The "cruise" is a leisurely trip that meanders over 3.5 miles in the scenic portion of the system, traveling through pristine rain forests, over ravines and waterfalls and through dark, mysterious tunnels. There is no white water involved in this trip. Learn about the culture and history of the Kohala region from local guides who are experienced kayakers and trained in water safety. A cultural and recreational wilderness adventure for the whole family. No Kayaking experience is necessary.
